Referral and Admissions Process
New Horizon Center is a therapeutic day school that serves students whose educational needs require a more specialized setting than their home school district can provide.
To be considered for placement at New Horizon Center, a student must have an active Individualized Education Program (IEP) through their home school district. During an IEP meeting, the student's team must determine that the district is unable to appropriately meet the student's educational, behavioral, communication, social-emotional, or functional needs within the district's available programs and services, and that a therapeutic day school placement should be considered.
Once this determination has been made, the student's home school district would submit a referral by obtaining parent/guardian consent for New Horizon Center to review the student's educational records, including the current IEP and related evaluations.
Our admissions team carefully reviews each referral to determine whether New Horizon Center may be an appropriate educational setting. In addition to considering the individual needs of the referred student, we also evaluate whether the student would be a good fit within an available classroom while maintaining a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment for all students.
If the referral review indicates that New Horizon Center may be an appropriate placement, members of our team will visit the student's current educational setting to observe and gather additional information.
Following the observation, the student and parent/guardian may be invited to tour New Horizon Center and learn more about our programs and services. Please note that a tour does not guarantee acceptance or placement.
After all information has been reviewed, New Horizon Center will make a final determination regarding placement and communicate that decision to the student’s home school district.
We understand that selecting the right educational placement is an important decision. Our goal is to ensure that every student admitted to New Horizon Center can be successful within our program while supporting the needs of all students we serve.
