Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy services at New Horizon Center are designed to enhance the student's ability to fully access the school environment. O.T. provides opportunities for each student to become as independent as possible within the school setting. These areas include self-care, social interactions, meal times, and community outings. Therapists also provide education and training to classroom staff and families in an effort to further support the student's independent functioning.
This program provides students with an opportunity to develop prevocational skills as well as to enjoy a rich sensory experience. This program is a  collaboration with the Chicago Botanic Gardens.
Multi-sensory environments offer individuals with disabilities a safe way to explore sensory stimulation through lights, sound, smell and touch. The sensory room is an environmental space that promotes exploration and relaxation for our students.
